Sunday, May 12th at 9am-3PM, the Connecticut Chapter of the Appalachian Mountain Club will be meeting at Housatonic Meadows State Park Picnic Area to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the National Trails Act by working on the first ever National Scenic Trail, the A.T! Projects for all skill levels are available, just choose an activity that suits your interests.
Planned projects include:
Monitoring the boundaries of the lands adjacent to the trail, (finding survey monuments using compass and survey maps and refreshing yellow paint blazes);
Clearing the Trail and various other treadway improvements on the Undermountain Trail and Bear Mountain;
Kiosk repairs at the Lion's Head trailhead;
Removal of non-native Garlic Mustard and other invasive plant species.
In Honor of Dave Hardy
This year a special stone staircase project will be dedicated to the memory of Dave Hardy, a well loved and highly respected friend of AMC-CT, former Chairman of the AMC Inter-Chapter Trail Committee, and Director of Trail Programs for the Green Mountain Club.
