A.T. volunteers must complete a two-day certification course to operate a crosscut saw on federal land. Certification is good for three years, as long as the sawyer has appropriate first aid training as well.
This course is offered by the Mount Rogers National Recreation Area and will be based at the U.S. Forest Service Work Center in Sugar Grove, Virginia. The course is from 8 am - 5 pm each day for sawyers being certified for the first time, or wishing to be certified at a higher level.
Sawyers wishing to re-certify at the same level as their previous certification can do so in one day, 8 am-5 pm April 7.
